Our firm is registered with the State of Maryland as a registered investment advisor. We offer our annual investment advisor filing to all financial planning clients who wish to receive a copy. Our CFP® practitioners are also members of the Financial Planning Association. May & Barnhard's professionals are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. As such, we participate in the practice monitoring program and have successfully passed quality reviews by our peers, with unqualified opinions. Our Partners have over 60 years of combined experience in national and local accounting firms and in private industry. Debora E. May, CPA/PFS, CFP®, CDFA Ms. May is the partner in charge of quality review on divorce and financial planning engagements. She has over 24 years of experience in public accounting with varied and substantial experience in tax, financial planning for individuals and closely-held businesses, divorce litigation support and negotiation for financial settlements in divorce. She has provided expert testimony for attorneys in divorce and real estate mattters, and participated in mediations for divorce. Ms. May is recognized as an expert in the divorce planning area and has helped negotiate settlements in over 300 divorce cases. She has also been voted by her peers as one of the top financial planning experts in the metropolitan Washington, DC area in the two polls of that nature sponsored by Washingtonian Magazine (October 1994; December 2002). Jeffrey A. May, CPA Mr. May is the technical partner in charge of the tax practice at May & Barnhard, PC. He is responsible for the overall quality control of the tax practice, which specializes in providing tax services and benefit planning to individuals, closely-held businesses and not-for-profit organizations. While Mr. May enjoys a diverse industry mix of clientele, he is known for his expertise in the professional services, real estate, oil and gas, retail, government contracting and internet commerce industries. He also works closely with not-for-profit organizations, helping them obtain tax exemption, addressing unrelated business income tax complexities, and achieving public support tests. Judith P. Barnhard, CPA Ms. Barnhard is the partner in charge of the accounting and audit practice at May & Barnhard, PC. She is responsible for the overall quality control of the audit practice, which specializes in providing accounting and auditing services to not-for-profit organizations, government contractors, retail organizations and closely held businesses. Ms. Barnhard also prepares tax returns for businesses, not-for-profits and individuals. She is the former Chair of the Accounting Standards Committee of the Maryland Association of CPAs and has spoken and written on such topics as joint allocation of fund-raising costs, unrelated business tax, and other issues related to not-for-profit accounting.
